Chapter Ten

Mia and I didn’t want to linger in the coffee shop too long in case we pushed our luck with Emily, so we called Roland and got him to pick us up outside. Mia also gave Victor a quick call to get him to gather the board for a meeting. Then we headed for the office, and I was feeling really good about the information we’d managed to get out of the barista.

“I want you to come in with me this time,” I said to Mia as we rode up in the elevator together.

“Are you sure?” the blonde asked. “I can’t really contribute anything.”

“You helped me get the info out of Emily,” I said with a casual shrug. “I want you to be there.”

“It’s been a while since I’ve been in a meeting,” the Omega admitted with a soft laugh. “I can’t promise I’m going to be much help.”

“Just you being there for moral support is enough for me,” I said. “Besides, if the board gets pissed that we let a rival go, I’m gonna need at least one person on my side.”

“You got it, St. James.” Mia smirked at my words, and we were silent the rest of the way up.

We didn’t want to waste any time, so as soon as the elevator dinged open, we power-walked straight to the meeting room.

The board obviously heard us coming from a mile off, so they weren’t surprised when we barged into the room. They were in their usual places. Victor was at the head of the table, with Susan on his right. Collins was sitting all alone on one side where he belonged, and Lexi was a little hunched over in her chair in anticipation.

“I’ve got good news and bad news,” I said bluntly as I sat down in the seat at the head of the table and gestured for Mia to sit down on the one on my right.

“Let’s hear it,” Victor said with a hopeful smile.

“We managed to get more info out of the wolf who got away yesterday,” I explained. “Namely, Drake is planning on attacking some of our shipment trucks due on Monday.”

“That is very good news,” the chairman said in a surprised tone. “Well done, Josh.”

“Shall we divert the trucks to another route?” Susan suggested.

“Divert them all, except one,” I said. “I’ll follow the truck and stake it out until Drake rears his fat head.”

Mia stifled a laugh with her hand before quickly composing herself. I winked at the blonde, who blushed a little, before I turned back to the board.

“If we were to even lose one truck of product, then it would not help our situation,” Collins replied, and his face was pinched like he’d just sucked on a lemon. “Are you willing to put the product on the line?”

“If it gets rid of Drake, yes,” I said smoothly. “I’ll cover the cost of the product in the truck.”

“We can’t ask you to cover this,” Lexi tried to reason with me.

“You’re not asking.” I shrugged.
